Late night run on the home treadmill after dinner and scout meetings.  Easy run of 7 miles at 7:47.  Not so easy after being reminded that I had philly cheese steak sandwiches with onions and green peppers for dinner.

Speed workout today.  I needed a haircut after work so I ran on the treadmill at work during lunch.  Warm up, two one mile intervals at 6:11 with half mile jog in between and the cool down.  I always watch nature videos when I do speed or tempo because I can zone out a lot easier.  Especially when I can picture myself backpacking through the canyons of Southern Utah.

Morning neighborhood 5k with my family.  We had a lot of fun with our good friends.  I got beat by two high school kids and a neighbor that ran hurdles in college.  At least I beat my seven year old daughter.

I'm a fair weather runner so when it gets too cold or too hot I run on the lonely treadmill at my office.

Training for St. George started two weeks ago.  I like to do the Runners World plan.  I haven't tried any others yet.  Today was a long run of 16 miles.  Everything felt good except for the boredom.

The Fellowship of the Rings got me through again.  There is a TV with a VCR so I have a collection of videos purchased from the DI over the last four years.  I wish there was a DVD player.

Took my son to soccer practice and then I ran around the park while he practiced.  The trail around the park was concrete.  It made me wish I was on the BST.  6.3 miles at 7:42 average.  A bit too hot, windy and dusty for my liking while running.

I wish all bike paths/trails were dirt or wood chips. Or at least asphalt. Concrete is just nasty.

Tempo on the treadmill at work.  Watching the video of Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Canyon scenery helped to make it more enjoyable.  1 mile warmup, 5 miles at tempo pace, 1 mile cool down.

Yesterday I signed up for the N.U.T.S. half marathon on the BST above Ogden on July 17.  The BST is one of my favorite places to run.  My office window faces the  Ogden mountains and I catch myself wishing that I was on the trails instead of working.  I couldn't pass up the inaugural running of this trail run.  I hope it is worth it.

Early morning run with my wife in our hilly neighborhood.  We have a nice 4 mile loop.  I stopped at 8 miles to get ready for work.  She stopped after 22 miles because she got bored.  I can't understand how she can run the loop so many times.

I'm taking my Scout Troop up to Camp Loll for the week.  I'm also taking my running shoes just in case I can get some miles in.

Total Distance

I survived scout camp last week without any injuries until I was unpacking on Saturday and a can of fruit fell through a hole in the bag it was in and hit the top of my foot.

I thought I would have time to run in the mornings, but I wasn't thinking straight.  I did get a 18 mile stroll in through the southern section of Yellowstone on Wednesday.

I'm changing up my marathon training for this week because of the NUTS half marathon next Saturday.  I did a modified temp run with a mile warmup, and 3 1/4 mile tempo.  I wasn't in to it so I did 4 more miles and called it good.

I hope to run on the BST starting at 29th Street on Wednesday and check out the lower portion of the course to Strong Canyon because I'm not familiar with it yet.

Started at 29th trailhead and headed south to figure out the BST 1/2 course.  Missed a trail at the golf course and ended up going up waterfall canyon to the BST and then over to Strongs Canyon.  Then went down Strongs Canyon to the construction.  I think I figured things out.  Went back north  to 29th and up to Taylor Canyon.  I had some time left so I went north for awhile.

When I stopped to turn around I noticed a fire in West Ogden so I stopped to look at it.  Ultrajim came down the trail so we talked for a bit.  I thought I would run into him sooner or later.  He puts on the Buffalo Run and other races out on Antelope Island.

I'm not sure how far I went today.  It was fun exploring several trails I haven't been on before.

I've been looking forward to the inaugural running of the N.U.T.S Trail Half Marathon because it was on the same trails that I like to run on after work.  The trail conditions were great in my opinion.  The cloud cover helped keep things cooler so the heat wasn't too bad.

I arrived a bit early and waited in my car trying to see if I knew anyone else.  I recognized a few guys I have seen at previous races.  I enjoy the trail races because they are low key, smaller, and simple.  Everyone is really genuine and friendly.

I knew I needed to pace myself so I settled in with a small group with a good pace.  I was able to meet a few people in the group.  I stayed with them to the top of Strong's Canyon because the pace was perfect, and the company was good.

I've run the next section of the trail many times so I knew what to expect from Strongs to the Beuss Trailhead.  On the switchbacks going up I talked with a gentleman that I've met several times at Buffalo Runs.  I love how nice the trail runners are.  I passed the elites going the opposite direction before dropping down into Beuss and was surprised to see the first woman not too far behind the first two men.  I dream of running that fast, but it won't be in this lifetime.  Anyway, I filled my two little bottles at the Beuss aid station and headed back up the canyon.  I knew from previous runs that I would need to hike the middle section until the trail broke out of the canyon.

I think I paced myself really well.  I started cramping in my quads at the top of Beuss, but was able to get it under control.  My favorite part of the BST is going down from the highest point just North of Beuss, crossing the streams at Strongs, Waterfall and Taylor's Canyons and the trail through the scrub oak and maples to Rainbow Garden.  There are only a few inclines and the rest is open up the throttle and let it go.  I passed a handful of runners and had a P.R. (like everyone else) for the race.  Hope to do better next year.

My post trailrun race goes like this; drink a mountain dew and eat  handful of M&M's and try not to talk too much because I usually don't make sense.  Find the people that I paced off of and thank them while trying to make a few friends.  I enjoyed talking to some of the runners after the race and putting some names to faces that I've seen around or heard of.   I think that those who put the race on and the volunteers did a great job so kudos to them.

Good Job and it sounds like your pacing strategy was perfect. I like the use the same technique at the finish line too. Eat as much food as possible and avoid talking to people. I guess I do that all the time though. Those are great trails to run on, very jealous of those with easy access.

It's always nice when you can race on your regular trails, and it sounds like it paid off with a great race. Nice job.

Gutted out 18 miles on the treadmill.  I was supposed to do 20 at 7:47 but could only do 18.

I bought the old video "the Saint" with Val Kimore at the DI yesterday hoping it would make the run easier, but it didn't.  When it finished, the only thing I could find on the TV to watch was "the Little House on the Prairie."  I ran three miles with it on before I had enough.  Does anyone have any good movie suggestions to run to?

Hey Man, It was great to meet you today at the D_News. I couldn't believe how many FBR's were there....look out SGM, here we come. Is your wife doing SGM.

Are you doing the Provo 1/2?

I spent this morning taking my turn being the spouse of a runner.  I woke our four children up this morning so we could drive down to Liberty Park, find a parking place, and watch the finish of the Marathon and cheer for my wife.  I enjoy watching the runners go by and didn't envy them as the turned off of the hot exposed 8th south and made their way south into the park.  I get to know more people each race.  At this time I have no desire to run the Deseret News.

Anyway, I had time tonight to run 8 on the treadmill at home.

I was in Park City for my inlaw reunion on Monday.  I wanted to find the Mid-Mountain trail for a long run.  Ran up most of the Spiro Trail switchbacks.  Thought I had missed the trail and ran down Spiro.  Realized I was right so I hiked back up the Spiro Trail switchbacks and continued on to the Mid-Mountain trail and took it north two miles.  Came back and through Park City Ski resort.  The trail was beautiful.  I enjoyed running where I am usually skiing, but I wished I had some snow and my skis going down back to the Resort.

The Mid-Mountain marthon is starting to catch my attention.

Wanted to run on the BST above Ogden after work.  But due to lack of time, I had to settle for the treadmill.  The Man from Snowy River kept my attention even though I've seen it so many times while running that I don't need to turn the volume up.

What was I thinking?

I've been running on the treadmill after work because it has been to hot for me outside.  But I was bored of the treadmill so I ran on the BST at 4:30 after work.  It was a furnace that I wasn't used to.  I started at 22nd street and ran south 4.5 miles and came back.  I won't do that for awhile in the middle of the day.

Long run day.  Didn't want to go outside on the trails after last Mondays run in the heat so I did the whole run on the treadmill at work.  It was one of my better 20 milers.

The movie A Knights Tale was entertaining and kept my mind occupied but Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was was way too slow except for the ninja parts.

I started counting my steps at mile 5 and continued all the way to mile 20.  Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with me.  I can tell how far I've gone just by my way of counting steps.  I could run on the treadmill without a watch or watchng the display and know almost exactly how far I've run.  I can't wait for the days to be cooler again.

Hi... I think you have some OCD issues if you are counting your steps. I tease my sister about her counting issues.... it makes her a better knitter though. I'm with you I hope the heat stops soon.

I'm sick with something so I cancelled my dentist appointment this afternoon.  And then I thought, hey, I have time to run during lunch since I don't feel well enough to go to the dentist.

My plan said ten so I went ten.  Running felt good, but now my throat feels worse.  I'd better go see the doc tomorrow.

Intended to do twenty on the Riverdale/Ogden River Parkway.  At mile 16 my body fell apart: right and left knee IT band, bruised right foot, groin.  I had to stop and walk the rest of the four miles back to where I had parked my car.  I was worried I wouldn't make it back.  It may have been because I was sick last week.  Very frustrating.

My knees and foot felt better today so I decided to run after work on the work treadmill.  I changed my clothes and walked over to where the treadmills are only to find a group of auditors camped out in the area next to the treadmill.  It took away my motivation because I wouldn't be able to run on the treadmill but would have to run outside.

I walked to my car in the parking lot wondering what I should do.  Run on the home treadmill, run in my neighborhood, or run on the river trail.  I decided to run on the river trail and take the heat like a man.  Turned out to be a OK run.

The B.R.A.T. (Bike Run and Toob) is coming up on Friday afternoon.  If anyone would like to participate or check it out it starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Riverdale frisbee golf course parking lot.  Bring a bike and a tube.  Free Johnsonville Brats and drinks.

We held our annual B.R.A.T. (Bike Run And Toob) this afternoon at the Riverdale Parkway / Weber River.  The bikers have a great course through the trees and brush that runners like me can't keep up with them.  A lot of fun regardless.  I stayed back with my boss because he was more fun to be with than the spandex bikers.

After the great bike ride(no injury to myself this year), we ran with our toobs down the Riverdale Parkway to the Riverdale Kayak Rapids on the Weber River.  We toobed down the rapids and cooled off in the river.  We then ran back to the finish line where we ate bratwurst and drank soda.  The run is only approximately 1.5 miles so the advantage goes to the bikers.

Anyway, after work I still needed to do a tempo run so I ran 9 on the treadmill.  Warm up, 7 mile at tempo pace and 1 mile cool.  Felt good even after eating two brats at the BRAT.

I haven't ran for over a week due to a return trip to Canada, a backpacking trip with the family in the Uintas and a case of strep throat.  I ran 5 this afternoon during lunch to see what would happen.  I felt OK considering the events of the last week.

I'm a little discouraged though because this week was supposed to be my peak week before I start tapering for St. George.  I have three 20 milers in, but was supposed to do my last one on Monday.  I hope to go long tomorrow after work.  I'll see how the body handles is.

Ran 20 on the parkway.  I was curious to see how my body would react after being sick.  The first 11 went well with an average pae of 7:38.  The last 9 were to be endured and dropped my average pace to 8:00.

Every muscle in my legs and feet started to cramp after I finished.  I fight cramps all the time, but this time it was nasty.  It was so painful driving home that I pulled off the freeway in Uinta and found a place to stop and lay down.  That made it worse so I made it home and have never enjoyed a cold bath so much.
